San Francisco: The Embarcadero (slideshow)This morning in the weather was perfect for a Groundbreaking event to mark the first project undertaken by the Laborers' Community and Training Foundation. A crowd of just under 100 enjoyed the scenery as Mayor Gavin Newsom arrived to get the Press Conference started.
Five lucky pre-apprentices (most are from the Jobsnow! work program,) showed up at 6am to begin their intense training and introduction into the Building Trades for the new project and will work from start to finish.
LCTF Director Chris Gruwell introduced many guests and thank the many participants for showing up to lend their support for the unique endeavor. "This is just what the doctor ordered...we hear so much about public/private partnerships lately, but most people don't seem to really understand how it works. I am enthusiastic about these types of opportunities for workers & community residents who need and deserve a fair shot. It is great that Webcor, Platinum, the SFRPD, the Mayor's Office, and the other partners can come together and think outside the box during this economic crisis, while delivering something that the community and public can enjoy." - Ramon Hernandez, Board Chairman
