This morning in the weather was perfect for a Groundbreaking event to mark the first project undertaken by the Laborers' Community and Training Foundation. A crowd of just under 100 enjoyed the scenery as Mayor Gavin Newsom arrived to get the Press Conference started.
Five lucky pre-apprentices (most are from the Jobsnow! work program,) showed up at 6am to begin their intense training and introduction into the Building Trades for the new project and will work from start to finish.
LCTF Director Chris Gruwell introduced many guests and thank the many participants for showing up to lend their support for the unique endeavor. "This is just what the doctor ordered...we hear so much about public/private partnerships lately, but most people don't seem to really understand how it works. I am enthusiastic about these types of opportunities for workers & community residents who need and deserve a fair shot. It is great that Webcor, Platinum, the SFRPD, the Mayor's Office, and the other partners can come together and think outside the box during this economic crisis, while delivering something that the community and public can enjoy." - Ramon Hernandez, Board Chairman

LCTF Groundbreaking Monday, 10am

San Franciscans are already aware of the fact that the Laborers' Union Local 261, has been addressing community needs and increased preapprenticeship opportunities for residents through the Laborers' Community & Training Foundation "LCTF."

Founded in late 2007, by Oscar De La Torre and his Executive Board, the 261 LCTF kicked off its public/private partnership efforts with the help of Mayor Gavin Newsom, former Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. Board President David Chiu and many others last May.

Now, this Monday at 10am, Mayor Gavin Newsom will break ground with our partners Webcor Builders, Platinum Advisors, and Salesforce.com to deliver Bocce Ball to the SF Embarcadero for all San Franciscans to enjoy. We all hope this is just the beginning of what will likely be number of projects throughout the City that will bridge the gap and give preapprentices an opportunity to experience the Trades while delivering a special area for the citizens and public to enjoy.

On behalf of LCTF Chairman of the Board, Ramon Hernandez please celebrate this unique endeavor with us on Monday at 10am (right across the street from One Market.)
